Our Verdict

Best for

  • Choose Follow Up Boss if you already generate leads (Zillow, referrals, your own ads) and want a fast, month-to-month CRM that routes and tracks them.
  • Choose Follow Up Boss if you want to keep your website and lead sources and swap the CRM without a contract.

Not ideal for

  • Pick BoomTown instead if you want one vendor to run the ads, the IDX website, and the CRM, and you can commit to a 12-month agreement and an ad budget.
  • Pick BoomTown instead if you want the option of human ISAs (Success Assurance) working new leads before your agents do.

Follow Up Boss is a CRM; BoomTown is a lead-generation platform that includes a CRM. Teams that already have lead flow usually get more from Follow Up Boss at a fraction of the cost, while teams buying lead volume and a website in one contract are BoomTown's customer. Many teams run both: BoomTown for the site and ads, Follow Up Boss for the follow-up.

What each one is

Follow Up Boss is a standalone real estate CRM. It does not build your website or run your ads; it takes leads from wherever you get them (Zillow, Realtor.com, your IDX site, open houses, referrals), routes them to the right agent, and tracks every call, text, and email. Pricing is public and month to month, and it was acquired by Zillow Group in December 2023.

BoomTown is a lead-generation platform. You get an IDX website, managed Google and Facebook advertising, and a CRM built to work the buyer leads that website produces. Pricing is quoted per team, agreements are typically 12 months, and an ad budget sits on top of the platform fee. BoomTown is owned by Inside Real Estate, the company behind kvCORE and BoldTrail.

Choose Follow Up Boss if

  • You already have lead sources and the problem is follow-up, not volume.
  • You want to know the price before the sales call: $69 per user on Grow, $499 a month for ten users on Pro.
  • You want to leave without a penalty. There is no contract and a 14-day free trial.
  • Your team leader lives in lead routing: ponds, round-robin, first-to-claim, and rules by source or price band.
  • You want to keep your website provider. Follow Up Boss connects to more than 250 tools, including most IDX platforms.

Choose BoomTown if

  • You want one vendor for the website, the ads, and the CRM, and one bill for all three.
  • You are buying buyer-lead volume and have the budget to run ads every month.
  • You want the option of Success Assurance, where BoomTown's ISAs contact and qualify leads before handing them to an agent.
  • You are a larger team or brokerage that can absorb a 12-month commitment and a setup fee.

Where they overlap

Both have calling and texting inside the app, automated follow-up plans, lead routing, and a mobile app. Both report on lead sources and agent activity. Neither includes MLS analytics, an automated valuation, or a CMA tool; those come from other software in either case.

Running both

A common setup is BoomTown for the website and paid leads and Follow Up Boss as the CRM of record, with leads flowing from BoomTown into Follow Up Boss through the native integration. That gives a team BoomTown's lead flow with Follow Up Boss's routing and reporting, at the cost of paying for two CRMs. If you go this route, turn off BoomTown's drip campaigns so a lead is not worked from two systems.

Switching between them

Moving from BoomTown to Follow Up Boss is a contact export and import plus rebuilding action plans; the harder part is replacing the website and ad engine, which BoomTown bundled. Moving from Follow Up Boss to BoomTown means accepting the contract and the ad budget in exchange for the bundle. Our CRM migration playbook covers the export, validation, and sequence rebuild in either direction.

How we compared

We used each vendor's published pricing page (Follow Up Boss) or the ranges buyers report where no price is published (BoomTown), each vendor's own feature documentation, and what agents say on review sites and in agent forums, checked in September 2026. Where a fact is contested we say so. Prices are as published or reported in September 2026 and change often; verify at the provider's website before you sign.
